Gorgeous came into our lives as a gift from our neighbors Fran and Will Collins who had hand fed him as a baby bird. Oh what a gift he was! Gorgeous sang, danced, spoke words of praise, always announced when Frankie, the cat, entered the room, and performed pet therapy whenever called upon to do so.
Besides music and talk therapies, Gorgeous was an expert in Cranial Sacral adjustments which he combined with very light acupoint touch.
The biggest loves of Gorgeous's life were Flip the Bird, Cosmos, fresh flowering catnip tops, and spending time with Tommy. While Judy multitasked with breakfast and working on the computer, Gorgeous enjoyed supervising from her shoulder or perching atop the computer screen.
Gorgeous was content with his jobs of checking out the earring choice for the day and supervising unless his favorite human, Tommy, walked into the room. Upon seeing Tommy, Gorgeous would take flight and usually land on Tommy's outstretched finger.
Judy played fifth fiddle to them all. Gorgeous however, knew how to soothe the wound of not being first choice through his talk therapy and song, especially if a joint shower was involved.
As Judy showered more with Gorgeous than any one else, Judy benefitted the most from Gorgeous' special talk and music therapy. How more uplifting, while naked in a shower, can life get than hearing "Hello Gorgeous", The Andy Griffith Theme Song, or wolf whistles of praise sent your way?
Not everyone appreciated Gorgeous' wolf whistles and calling out "Hello Gorgeous" upon first hearing them. During one garage sale we hosted, a female shopper mistook Gorgeous' voice and whistles as coming from Tom. She was ready to slap Tom over Gorgeous's flirtations. Once she figured out Gorgeous' hoax, we all had a good laugh.
Gorgeous and gang were regulars on CthePower radio show on Wednesdays for 2 and a half years. Although disconcerting to some of our interviewees, part of our listening audience looked forward to seeing how interviewees would handle the comments and competition from Gorgeous and his feathered friends.
Gorgeous had two cross country flights (ok - around the block). The second one got Tommy off work mid-day for a ladder installation and rescue off the top of Jackie Beal's garage.
The first flight was a bit more dramatic: Gorgeous's landing was two blocks away, involved eight little boys and Judy in hot pursuit of the fast flying cockatiel, a fire truck, several firemen, a fireman's ladder put up some neighbor's tall tree, and a laughing adult superstar fireman who had a special talent of climbing tall trees.
For the record: Firemen do NOT come out to rescue pet birds. However, they DO send a ladder truck to come out to get eight little boys off of a neighbor's roof!
After a true Native American style cremation, Gorgeous' ashes were set on a Sagittarius Moon, 11-29-2016:

I really doubt that any other cockatiel will ever come as close to our hearts as Gorgeous did. Gorgeous left an indelible imprint on us as well as on the hearts of everyone he met.
